Cupressus funebris is generally regarded as the botanical source of Chinese Cedarwood essential oil. Note: the essential oil is produced from distilling wood from cypresses (or junipers) (Cupressus), rather than true cedars (Cedrus).
Cedarwood has long history of use throughout the world and has a very relaxing and grounding aroma. The Egyptians would infuse the oil in the deceased in addition to using it for perfumes and incense. The Tibetans diffuse it in their temples as it is considered centering and relaxing.
HOW TO USE:
Diffuse it when you want to be relaxed and centered. It will purify the air and also promotes tranquility. Excellent during a massage or after, too.
Considered a good astringent for skin to tighten and improve complexion. Mix 1-3 drops in an ounce of cream.
Of course, it is antibacterial like most essential oils! It is also has anti-inflammatory qualities.
Cedarwood is thought to help stimulate the immune system. In aromatherapy, it is also said to help support confidence.
In the Northwest, Pacific Indians use Cedarwood as a decongestant as well as a diuretic. It was discovered by French doctors that it helps get rid of chronic bronchitis.
